Usually, the floatplane in question is a Grumman Goose, a reliable relic from an earlier time. Along with the De Havilland Beaver, these aircraft have been the workhorses of the coast since the 1950's. Pacific Coastal Airlines have done an excellent job of maintaining the largest fleet of "Geese" in the world. These amphibious aircraft seat 8 comfortably, take off on wheels from the Port Hardy International Airport, and land on the water at their destination (or vice versa). On a clear day, the scenery during the twenty minute flight over the islands and Queen Charlotte Strait is spectacular. Keep a sharp eye out for whales!

Sunday trips start at noon at the North Shore Inn, on the water just north of downtown Port Hardy. One of the crew will meet you in the lobby and arrange transportation to the dock.
